Labour ComplianceThe Government of Assam on June 22, 2026, issued revision of Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for Domestic Workers effective January 1, 2026.

The notification revises the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for domestic workers, linking it to the rise in the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW, Base 2016=100). The average CPI increased from 143.36 (December 2024–May 2025) to 147.14 (June 2025–December 2025), reflecting a rise of 3.78 points (2.64%), which has been considered for revising VDA.

Accordingly, the revised VDA rates are made applicable to domestic workers with effect from January 1, 2026. For part-time workers, the new VDA per hour ranges from ₹0.79 to ₹0.92 depending on the category, leading to updated gross hourly wages such as ₹42.18 for housekeeping work and ₹48.66 for cooking and care services.

For full-time domestic workers (9 hours), the revised monthly VDA ranges from ₹190.08 to ₹221.76. This results in updated gross monthly wages of ₹10,022.15 for general domestic work and ₹11,428.55 for baby care or old-age care workers.

Overall, the revision ensures wage adjustment in line with inflation, thereby protecting the real income of domestic workers.
